Expect to see some horses around the city after the division was reintroduced last year
A Coventry neighbourhood police team has said it will use mounted police officers to tackle specific crimes on its patch.
Concerns among residents regarding car crime and house break-ins has seen Stoke and Wyken Neighbourhood police team pinpoint these issues as key priorities.
This week, they announced that residents can expect to see horses trotting down the area's residential streets.
Officers highlighted the issue last month, stating there had been a "recent increase in vehicle related offences, including a number of smash and grab offences" while burglaries were also recognised as a community concern.
Regarding the car crime, a force spokesman said this week: "This remains a priority, the areas are subject to targeted patrols during peak times, particularly late evenings, to deter offending and identify suspects. The Mounted Unit has also been deployed on several occasions to provide additional high visibility reassurance patrols."
The tactic is obviously working - the spokesman explained: "There have been several arrests made recently in connection with these offences, and those individuals charged to court.
"Crime prevention advice continues to be shared, and we strongly encourage members of the public not to leave items on display in vehicles. We thank the community for their continued support and ask that any suspicious behaviour is reported to the police promptly."
Regarding the community's concern about burglaries, the spokesman continued: "Action remains a priority and the area is subject to targeted patrols during peak times, particularly late evenings and overnight, to deter offending and identify suspects.
"The Mounted Unit, Traffic officers and Dog Units have been deployed to provide additional patrols."
