A community has gathered together to host what has been described as Coventry's biggest free Christmas Eve party.

People flocked to Willenhall Social Club for The Pride of Willenhall event on Wednesday, which has been running annually for 12 years.

Free toys, which had been donated by local businesses and residents, were piled up across the venue ready to be handed out to children in attendance.

Last year, more than 2,000 people attended with similar numbers estimated for this year's event.

Clel Sneddon, from Pride of Willenhall, told BBC CWR: "It's like walking into a toy shop, the quality of the toys that are here are of a high standard, the choice is vast."

The toys were displayed in the social club for children to view and they were given the chance to choose a gift to take home.

Any that remained at the end of the Christmas Eve party were donated to the Children's Accident and Emergency department at Coventry's University Hospital.

Free food was also available, including samosas provided by community member Sunny Braitch, from Sky Blue Support.

He will also be handing out free carvery dinners to those who are struggling financially in Binley and Willenhall on Christmas Day.

The meals will be available between 10:00 and 11:00 GMT.

Mr Sneddon added: "What Sunny is going to do, giving up his free time on Christmas Day to put dinner on the table for elderly, pensioners and those who might not be in a possible to be able to afford it is absolutely incredible and it shows our community at it is very best."
