Coventry will see major changes to its bin collections over Christmas and the New Year. Coventry City Council has released the updated refuse and recycling schedule for the festive period.

Christmas brings the inevitable overflow of bins, filled with empty bottles, torn wrapping paper, and leftover food. Staying on top of the revised collection schedule is essential to prevent bins from piling up after the holidays and ensure no pickups are missed.

Collections are paused on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day. With these holidays falling on weekdays, the affected collections will be moved to two weekends instead.

Garden waste will not be collected until Tuesday, January 13. Residents are also being reminded of what items should and should not be placed in bins during the festive period.

Even one wrong item in a blue-lidded bin can contaminate a full load, forcing recyclable waste to be incinerated. Contaminated recycling costs more than £500,000 a year, according to Coventry City Council.

Recycling generally includes paper, cardboard, tins and cans, as well as glass bottles and jars. Clothes, sanitary products, nappies, and electrical items should not be placed in these bins as they can prevent entire loads from being processed as intended.
