The Coventry street with the most bus lane fines in 2025 has been revealed. Cameras at the city centre junction where Hales Street meets The Burges caught over 17,000 infringements in the bus lane - resulting in a huge cost of nearly £400,000.
The figures have been revealed recently by Coventry City Council as a Freedom of Information request published this month. The request asked for the location of the top revenue raising bus lane from January to November 2025, with the answer being Hales Street junction with Burges.
Asked how many were issued, the council responded: "The total penalties (PCNs) given at this location between 1 January 2025 to 31 October 2025 was 17,165."
The response added: "The total revenue raised at this location was £372,510.80."
This means on average 56 drivers are being caught out each day at the site, for fines worth just over £1,225 per day.
The same request sees the council asked: "The total fine revenue raised by penalties (PCNs) related to the contravention '34 - Being in a bus lane' for the whole of 2025 to day (Jan to Nov 2025)."
The figure given is £760,248.56. This means just under 49 percent of bus lane fines are coming from just one spot.
A council spokesman told Coventry Live: "We operate bus lane enforcement to improve public transport reliability, journey times and to encourage sustainable travel.
"Bus lane signs and markings clearly indicate both the start and end of bus lanes and highlight the hours of operation. If there are no times indicated, then the bus lane is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In this instance, the Hales St bus gate near the junction with Burges, operates from 10am to 6pm during Monday to Saturday.
“When a new bus gate is introduced we usually operate a two to four week period where we send warning letters and this was the case for the bus gate at the Burges.”
