A hospital trust has apologised to patients and staff after it was ranked in the bottom three of NHS performance tables.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) was ranked 132 out of 134 trusts in September's NHS figures.

The trust's chief strategy and transformation officer Justine Richards will give an update on its response at a Coventry City Council scrutiny meeting on Wednesday.

She is due to outline planned improvements at the trust, which runs University Hospital Coventry and Hospital of St Cross in Rugby.

The new performance measures, as part of the National Oversight Framework, were announced in November 2024 by the health secretary Wes Streeting.

He said NHS England (NHSE) would assess trusts against a range of performance criteria and publish the results.

Continued poor results could trigger intervention from NHSE.

A report to councillors, external said the trust's introduction of an electronic patient record (EPR) required reduced operational activity for six months, which increased waiting lists and impacted on its performance scores.

It added: "The board is sorry for any concern this will have caused for patients and staff and acknowledge that improvements are required.

"The focus is now on strengthening the position and having a clear roadmap to achieve this."
