Earlsdon Christmas Market will be returning this week, this year with a special pop-up bookshop and a Santa's grotto.

The Christmas Market will run from 4pm to 8pm on the Earlsdon High Street on Thursday, December 18.

A total of 45 stalls will be hosted on the day, including a pop-run by the high-street retailer Waterstones. There will be books and board games on offer, ‘perfect for last-minute gifts’.

Santa’s Grotto can be found on the high street. Families can have a photo with Santa and children can pick up a small present.

Many other local businesses, such as jewellery-makers, chocolatiers, and wellness brands will also be at the Christmas market – the full list can be found on the event Facebook page here.

The ‘community-run’ Christmas market was originally held in 2021 to regenerate the area after the COVID-19 pandemic and loss of local businesses. The event now sees more than 8,000 visitors every year.

It is organised by the Earlsdon 2.0 initiative, a group of volunteers dedicated to ‘revitalising the high street’ and ‘rebuilding community engagement’. They also arrange other events such as ‘Big Sweeps’ of the local area, and promote local charitable causes.

Dharmender Rai, one of the market’s organisers and a member of Earlsdon 2.0, told Coventry Live of the “community first” spirit that runs throughout the event every year. The market hopes to promote the support of local businesses, and give community members an enjoyable Christmas market environment, especially older members who may not be able to venture into the City Centre.

Visitors from all over Coventry are encouraged to attend, and will be welcomed by a family-friendly community atmosphere as well as plenty of Christmas cheer.
