Services between Coventry and Birmingham New Street have been suspended on Saturday and Sunday
Passengers are being warned of major changes to journeys between Coventry and Birmingham. Tracks are being replaced this weekend.
Teams will also carry out essential maintenance to help keep the railway safe for the thousands of passengers and freight trains that use the line, Network Rail said. Bosses say this will provide more reliable journeys.
Services between Coventry and Birmingham New Street will be suspended on Saturday, October 25, and Sunday, October 26. Buses will be operating between Birmingham New Street, Coventry, Rugby, Leamington Spa, and Birmingham International.
Coventry City fans have also been warned ahead of the Watford game at the CBS Arena on Saturday. Journeys with Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, London Northwestern Railway, West Midlands Railway and Transport for Wales will be affected.
Trains run by Avanti West Coast will be calling at Watford Junction, Milton Keynes Central, Rugby, Sandwell and Dudley, Wolverhampton, and Stafford. Services operated by CrossCountry will not be calling at Coventry or Birmingham International.
A spokesman for Coventry City FC said: “We have been informed that due to engineering works by Network Rail, there will be disruption to rail travel on Saturday, October 25, impacting our game against Watford at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Due to these engineering works, no trains will run between Coventry and Birmingham New Street.”
Martin Colmey, from Network Rail, said: “I am sorry for the disruption caused while we complete this essential track renewal. We know there is never a good time to close the railway, but this work has been carefully planned to keep disruption to a minimum while continuing to provide a safe and reliable service for passengers and freight.”
Mr Colmey added: “If you are planning to travel, please plan ahead, allowing extra time for your journey, and check before you travel for the latest journey information and travel advice.”
