An official planning application has been submitted for the proposal in Galley Common
More details have emerged on plans to build a new care home and houses on land in Nuneaton. CoventryLive previously reported how TERRA, a land and development specialist, had unveiled plans for a site in Galley Common.
Now an official planning application has been submitted to the borough council which asks for permission to build up to 37 new homes alongside the care facility on land south of School Lane, connected to Plough Hill Road. The proposal states that the care home will 'address a gap in the market of Galley Common to cater for the elderly'.
In regards to the plans for the new homes, the application states there will be a range of dwelling types 'suitable for people of different ages and lifestyles'. Both vehicles and pedestrians are planned to access the proposed development from School Lane.
The proposal says there will be dedicated pedestrian and dual pedestrian/cycle routes and 'extensive' areas of public open space to the south of the site. Included within the proposal is an illustrative masterplan of what the site will look like.
As the application asks for outline planning permission, it means that further details, such as the type of dwellings and layout, will be provided in further follow-up applications if the initial plan is approved.
"The site will greatly assist in meeting the council's identified housing and care needs," the plan concludes. "The scheme will provide much needed housing, including an appropriate level of affordable housing. The land occupies a sustainable location on the edge of Galley Common, adjacent to recently developed and developing housing sites..
"Visually the site is very well enclosed. Its development with a sensitively planned, high quality scheme, such as that proposed would not result in any adverse impacts on the wider countryside or any landscape features. The site provides a unique opportunity to create a unique, high quality gateway development for Galley Common.
"With a choice of homes, care provision and of areas of truly accessible public open space."
Planning officers at the Town Hall are now considering the application. All of the plans can be viewed by visiting the council website and searching in the planning applications section for reference 041201.
