Coventry City Council has announced a free Christmas-themed event will be held in the city centre for the festive season, but it will not be in the format of a Christmas lights switch-on. The council scrapped the switch-on in 2024 due to financial pressures and hosted a 'Festival of Christmas' event as a replacement.

The Festival of Christmas event included classic attractions with roaming acts across the city centre, from fire jugglers to dynamic choreography in Broadgate and Millennium Place, as well as storytelling tales from Santa Claus for children to enjoy.

The Festival of Christmas, the Christmas Market, and the 100-foot Big Wheel returned; however, it has not yet been confirmed whether these will return for 2025.

The council added that the Christmas-themed event will be suitable for all ages and will be 'a great event'. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Cabinet Member for Events and Deputy Leader at Coventry City Council, Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, said: "This winter, we’re delighted to be hosting another fantastic free event in the city centre for everyone to enjoy. The celebrations will be full of festive magic, with all the much-loved Christmas favourites – from elves and angels to Father Christmas himself.

"Further details will be shared soon, so we encourage everyone to keep an eye out for more updates."
