A West Midlands Police facility that has been closed for more than 10 years has reopened. It is based on Chace Avenue in Willenhall.

Willenhall Police Station closed in May 2015 but reopened to the public yesterday (September 10). Many Coventry PCs are now based at the newly revamped facility on Chace Avenue.

In September 2024, Willenhall Police Station, which opened in 1995, officially became the Coventry Police HQ. It had a major revamp earlier this year, as previously reported by CoventryLive.

Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: “Public contact offices are a key component of our large operational police stations. While it is people and not bricks which keep neighbourhoods safe, I recognise their iconic status within communities, they make people feel reassured.

“It is a fact that most people prefer to call us or go online these days, but there are some transactions which remain face-to-face, and some are often sensitive depending on need. Within minutes of the doors opening, we have had people collecting property that we have recovered as part of our investigations and visits from people we needed to interview.”

Chief Superintendent Paul Joyce, responsible for policing across Coventry, showed Chief Constable Guildford around the new facility yesterday (September 10). He said: “We have been without the front office for several years, and it is an absolute pleasure now to be reopening that facility to enable the public to come and talk to us face-to-face.”

West Midlands PCC Simon Foster, who owns all the West Midlands Police buildings, added: “It is a clear indication of my commitment to neighbourhood policing to ensure officers and staff have the facilities they need to provide the public with an effective and efficient police service. By modernising the police station, we are not only improving working conditions for our hard-working police officers and staff but also enhancing the service we provide to victims of crime and the wider community.”

There was a police station in Willenhall Precinct at one time I believe? (Although it was seldom staffed).

There was even a very short-lived office on the Spon End estate!
