Three men have been jailed for their part in a 'vicious' assault in Coventry. Said Raza, Hanif Rahman, and Emal Ahmadzi attacked two men on Stoney Stanton Road.

Raza, Rahman and Ahmadzi were seen in the company of the two men before splitting off. Police said the trio then returned to begin the attack, which happened on October 11, 2024.

Ahmadzi could be seen in CCTV footage slashing at one of the men with a large knife, Coventry Police said. When the men attempted to run away, Raza kicked their legs and slashed at them again, causing them to fall into the road.

Rahman, 21, was seen holding a knife and advancing towards the men they attacked. Police located the gang two days later in Coventry.

Raza, 20, and Ahmadzi, 21, ran away, but Rahman was detained. He was found in possession of an axe and quickly arrested.

Officers caught up with Raza and Ahmadzi later that day, and the pair were taken in for questioning. When interviewed, Rahman claimed that while he was there and seen holding a knife, he had not actually been involved.

Rahman said he had witnessed the assault and only picked up the knife because he did not want anyone to use it, Coventry Police said. But the 21-year-old was convicted of his involvement following a trial at Warwick Crown Court.

Raza and Ahmadzi pleaded guilty, and the trio were sentenced last Friday (August 8). Rahman, of Rye Hill, Coventry, was convicted of possessing a bladed article and an offensive weapon and wounding. He was sentenced to five years in jail.

Ahmadzi, of Skelmersdale, Lancashire, and Raza, of Emscote Road, Warwick, pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article and wounding. Ahmadzi was jailed for four and a half years, and Raza was sentenced to four years and nine months in jail.

Odd that I'm not able to find any reference to this stabbing at the time while I am able to find a report of a later stabbing in the same street?

Was there perhaps something about the accused in this case that the authorities didn't want us to know about?
