A new traffic light system will be trialled to improve access to University Hospital Coventry. Temporary four-way lights will be installed at key junctions at the end of April.

Lights will be placed at the second roundabout upon entering UHCW. Additional traffic signals will also be positioned at the junction next to Busy Bees Nursery.

Pedestrians will also be able to cross more safely as traffic signals will be in place at nearby zebra crossings. Bosses will be implementing the new traffic management system on Monday, April 28, and it will remain in place until Friday, May 9.

It is designed to ease congestion during peak weekday hours, particularly between 3.30pm and 6.30pm. Staff will be on site over the two-week period to monitor the system and adjust signal timings as needed.

A spokesman for the UHCW NHS Trust said: “As part of our continued efforts to improve access to University Hospital Coventry for patients, visitors and staff, a new traffic flow trial will be taking place from Monday, April 28, to Friday, May 9.

“Taking place on weekdays from 3.30pm to 6.30pm, excluding May 5, the trial has been shaped by feedback from site users. A specialist traffic management team will be on hand to oversee the system and ensure that emergency access is prioritised.

“We appreciate your support and patience as we continue working to make access to and from University Hospital Coventry smoother and more efficient for everyone.”
