Campaigners are demanding that the plan is thrown out
A new 18 metre phone mast would 'tower' over Coventry estate. That is according to campaigners who strongly oppose the proposed the 5G 18 metre high mast at Asda, corner of Daventry Road and Cecily Road in Cheylesmore.
They claim that it will have 'visual intrusion' in the area. They are petitioning the council to refuse the application.
"This large industrialising installation will harm the character of our area, violating Policy DE1," the petition reads. "The proposed mast would not respect and enhance surroundings or respond to the physical contest of the site.
"At 18m it will tower over its surroundings and will have a detrimental impact upon local people living nearby."
It adds that the planning department have previously refused similar application, for a 20 metres away on the corner of Daventry Road and Queen Isabels Avenue in April last year.
The e-petition runs until May 12 and can be found on the council's website here for more information.
