The first homes are expected to be ready from spring 2026
Clearance work has begun on a Coventry site where 182 homes will be built. The site, on land off Cromwell Lane in Tile Hill, will include 32 percent affordable housing.
The 12-acre site will consist of two to five bedroom homes and with planning permission approved, the first properties are expected to be ready from spring 2026. Midlands-based homebuilder Spitfire Homes say they also plan on delivery over £1.8m of contributions to support community infrastructure.
But the news hasn't been met with universal approval, according to a local councillor for the ward in which the site is based.
Cllr Marcus Lapsa for Westwood said: "Local people have been against this development from the start. Originally historically during the regional special strategy it was stated that this could not be built on because it would contribute to urban sprawl.
"Unfortunately it passed through on the last local plan and planning applications. The junctions in the area and Cromwell Lane are totally inadequate for this type of development. A line of Trees is the only contribution to separating the Meriden gap."
