Murder suspect remains in custody after Earlsdon stabbing

A man who was arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Officers found two men with serious stab wounds at an address on Newcombe Road, Coventry, shortly before 14:00 GMT on Saturday.

A man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene while a second man, also in his 50s, suffered potentially life-changing facial injuries and was taken to hospital.

A 51-year-old man, from Coventry, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday and remains in custody for questioning, said West Midlands Police.

A cordon remained in place on Sunday while forensic examinations were carried out.

Officers will be carrying out additional patrols in the area to reassure and support the community over the coming days, a force spokesperson said.

Man charged with murder after city stabbings

A man has been charged with murder after stabbings in Coventry.

Police found two men with serious stab wounds at an address on Newcombe Road, shortly before 14:00 GMT on Saturday.

Anthony Wilson, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second man, in his 50s, was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing facial injuries.

The West Midlands force said it had since charged James Ritchie, 51, of no fixed address, with murder and attempted murder.

In tribute to Mr Wilson, his family said: "We are profoundly sorry that his life has been taken in his way.

"The tragic circumstances are particularly distressing and we are grateful to learn of the help and support received at the time from his neighbours and friends."

Mr Ritchie was remanded to appear before Coventry Magistrates' Court on Monday.
