Emergency services swarmed around an incident on bridge in Coventry. More than a a dozen police, fire crews, ambulances and Network Rail officers were spotted on Fletchamstead Highway close to Costco yesterday afternoon (Saturday, March 1).

West Midlands Police has confirmed that the huge response was to reports of a man on a bridge at around 1.34pm. "The man was on the wrong side of the bridge, so the rail network was temporarily suspended as a precaution," a force spokesperson said.

Passers-by reported seeing a specialist rope rescue as well as drones in use. As a result of the incident, all services from Coventry Train Station were stopped for more than six hours.

Bus replacements were put into place before the lines were fully re-opened at 7pm last night. The force spokesperson added that a 22-year-old man, who has not been identified, was arrested on suspicion of causing interference with key infrastructure.

At the time of publication he remains in police custody where he is due to be questioned.
