They have been revealed as part of the proposed new budget for the borough
Locals have raged 'the cheek' amid rise in cost of some Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council services. CoventryLive reported that, as part of the forthcoming budget proposals, the Town Hall is looking at increasing fees for some of the services it provides.
This includes the hire of council football pitches. It is being proposed that These are also set to rise by 2.5 per cent.
It means that the cost of to use a council pitch only (per game) will rise from the current charge of between £20.50 and £36 to between £21.50-£37. For pitch hire and showers, per game, the price will rise from between £28 and £65 to between £29 and £67.
This has been met with anger by some who took to the Nuneaton News page on Facebook. One posted: "With the disgraceful state of the local pitches and the facilities I don't know how they have the cheek."
Another said "People may think it's only a couple of quid per game, but let's say you're a junior football club with 25 teams that use council pitches for say 20 games each a season. That's an increase in costs of £1000 per season for that junior club. Costs they then have to raise from elsewhere, on top of everything else.
"I'd love to see that money put into provision of more facilities, such as 4g pitches, but we all know the answer. When I approached WCC and NBBC about provision of 4g surfaces in the borough I was informed "we have enough already."
The planned budget for 2025/2026 is set to be debated at a full council meeting on Wednesday, February 19. Councillors will meet to decide the budget in the council chamber from 6pm.
