He told his victim he was 19 - but then received 30th birthday cards
A lying Coventry man has been found guilty of a string of child sex offences. A court heard how David Blackstock, now aged 57, of Harnall Lane West initially told his then 13-year-old victim he was 19-years-old.
But, just a matter of months later, she realised his true age when he began receiving 30th birthday cards. Southampton Crown Court heard how Blackstock went on to inflict controlling, abusive and violent behaviour towards the girl.
It was not until August 2020 when the victim, who is now in her 40s, contacted police to report that Blackstock had raped her when she was just 13. He pleaded not guilty to the offences.
But a jury found him guilty of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and four counts of indecent assault in both Southampton and Coventry on August 19 last year. On Friday (January 24) he was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
He was also made subject of an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and a restraining order in relation to the victim.
