Sheila Fox was last seen in the city centre when she was just 16 - more than 50 years ago
Coventry police have launched an appeal to help solve one of the city's longest running missing person cases. Sheila Fox was last seen in the city centre in 1972 when she was just 16-years-old.
More than half a century later, there has been no trace of her and police say that they continue to keep an 'open mind' as to where she went. They are asking locals for their help to finally solve the case.
"Officers are keeping an open mind as to where Sheila went, as she might have simply moved out of the area and not told anyone," a West Midlands Police spokesperson said. "We know Sheila was living with her parents at the time of her disappearance and that she may have been in a relationship with an older man.
The team say that she would now be 68-years-old and they want to find out what has happened to her. " It is entirely possible she simply left the area, changed her name and lived a normal life, but there are no traces of her in any of the public record systems.
"We want to find out what happened to Sheila, who would now be 68 and whether she came to any harm. It is believed Sheila's parents are now deceased, so we are hoping anyone out there who might know what happened to her will get in touch with us and let us know."
They say that anyone with any piece of detail, 'no matter how small', should contact the Missing Persons Investigation Unit on 0121 626 7003.
"Our officers investigate more than 12,000 missing persons reports per year and we always investigate any new information we receive, however long ago the person went missing," the force said.
