A pensioner accused of murder following the death of woman has died in custody. Surendra Patel, aged 78 of Aqua Place in Rugby, had been charged with murder following the death of a woman.

Police and paramedics were called to a property in Aqua Place on October 8 at 9.39am. They found the body of a woman in her 70s.

Mr Patel went on to be charged with murder. Warwickshire Police has today (November 20) confirmed that Mr Patel has died while being held on remand in prison custody.

It means that police murder investigation has now come to an end. Throughout the investigation, police had not publicly named the woman

All criminal proceedings in relation to the case now end. A coroner will take over the case. A date for an inquest has yet to be set. At that inquest, the cause of the woman's death and how it came about will be determined by the coroner.
