Large fire breaks out in roof of derelict building in Coventry

Crews were called to Kenilworth Road earlier today (October 13)

Firefighters have been called to tackle a large blaze in Coventry. It happened on Kenilworth Road earlier today (Sunday, October 13).

Smoke was seen billowing from the roof space of a derelict brick-built property on Kenilworth Road. Crews from Coventry, Binley, Canley, and Foleshill were called to the scene at around 12.50pm.

Officers from Coventry Police are also believed to have attended. Crews used two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze, West Midlands Fire Service said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze by around 2pm and ventilated the building. Nobody was believed to have been injured.

Police remain at the scene this afternoon (October 13). Investigators are working to establish what sparked the blaze, West Midlands Fire Service said.

In a statement shared on Facebook, West Midlands Fire Service said: “Crews are currently dealing with a five-pump fire within a roof space of a large brick-built property in Coventry. Police also requested to attend.”
