It was heard by locals in the Crow Hill area of town

A 'big boom' startled residents in part of Nuneaton earlier this morning. Locals in the Crow Hill area reported hearing the noise earlier today (October 2).

Local police officers had previously warned that 'shots and explosions' may be heard in the area. This is because they are taking part in special training sessions at the Nuns ground on Liberty Way.

These have been held every Wednesday since the middle of September and are due to continue at the rugby pitch off Liberty Way until October 26. It is understood that West Midlands Police colleagues are also taking part in the training session.

A post on the Nuneaton and Bedworth Police page on Facebook previously explained: "If you are in the area, you might hear the sounds of blank ammunition, controlled explosions, and simulated violence.

"Please be assured that there is nothing to worry about."
