A full 24-hour road closure is set to be in place on a major road from Coventry in Warwickshire. The A429 Coventry Road will be closed from September 30 to October 25 as part of the ongoing HS2 project.

HS2 bosses say that drainage, inspections, utilities surveys, and verge maintenance, have to take place along the A429, but diversions will be in place for motorists for four weeks. This is part of the second phase of works, with the third phase to take place in early 2025 which will see another closure.

Local communities within the area expressed anger at the proposed HS2 works, with some saying HS2 'will never be completed or commissioned' and is a 'total waste of money' and is 'ruining the UK's infrastructure'.

In terms of diversions for motorists and people taking public transport, National Express has announced diversions will apply for services 11 and 42 for four weeks. Both services will divert via Stoneleigh Road, Dalehouse Lane, and Common Lane. Kenilworth Road and Coventry Road will not be served.

The full statement on National Express reads: "To allow for HS2 works to take place, Kenilworth Road will be closed at Crackley and the following diversions will apply. Services 11 and 42, in both directions, will divert via Stoneleigh Road, Dalehouse Lane and Common Lane.

"Kenilworth Road and Coventry Road, between Gibett Hill Road and Common Lane will not be served. Alternative stopping places are Gibbet Hill Road and Coventry Road (Common Lane and Princes Drive bus stops).
