A man who stabbed his ex-partner to death in Coventry has been jailed. William Brady attacked Pauline Sweeney at her home in Allesley in March.

Brady and Sweeney had been inside the address on Long Close Avenue together on the day the murder happened. No clear motive was established, but Brady was later spotted by a neighbour standing outside the house crying.

When spoken to, all the 57-year-old would say was: 'I have killed her' repeating it over and over again, West Midlands Police said. It was at this point that the neighbour quickly dialled 999.

Police attended and tried to save Pauline, but the 50-year-old died from her injuries. Brady was arrested and later charged with murder, pleading guilty to the offence on Thursday, September 19.

Brady was handed a life sentence at Warwick Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday, September 24). He must serve a minimum of 19 years before he is eligible for parole, West Midlands Police said.

Pauline was remembered by her loved ones for having the 'kindest heart.' In a statement issued today (September 25), they said the mum-of-seven 'made friends and memories everywhere she went.'
