A burst water main was so fierce that it lifted part of a residential road in Bedworth. That is according to fire crews who responded to 999 calls to report the incident in Newcomen Road near Melrose Avenue at just after noon today (September 5).

They were greeted by water gushing across the road. It was so fierce that the burst that crews said it was 'lifting a large proportion of the road in numerous places. ' Due to safety concerns, part of the road was blocked off.

The section of road remains closed as Severn Trent engineers are currently on site. Locals have told CoventryLive that there are still some properties without any water.

Online, Severn Trent has predicted the repair to be made by around 6pm. However, a spokesperson said it would be fixed 'as quickly as we can.'

A spokesperson from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a burst water main pipe on Newcomen Road in Bedworth. One appliance was in attendance to assist Severn Trent Water with necessary road closures."

Motorists are negotiating the blocked road by following Melrose Avenue.
