Paramedics and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Rutland Air Ambulance were called to Upper Spon Street at around 4.20pm. Police also attended the incident and cordoned off the road.
Crews found a bystander administering life support to a 33-year-old man who had been pulled from the River Sherbourne. Paramedics took over and gave the critically injured man emergency treatment before rushing him to University Hospital Coventry.
He was pronounced dead a short time later, West Midlands Police said. His family has been informed of the tragedy and is currently being supported.
