A dramatic image captures the moment fierce orange flames tore through the roof of a former care home in Coventry. It was taken just before dozens of firefighters arrived at the old Apple Garth care home last night (April 13).

The ferocity of the fire ripped through the roof and into the first floor of the building as fire engines from across the city and nearby Birmingham raced to the scene. They spent hours fighting the flames which has destroyed the building.

It was only two years ago when the old 22-bed care home was put on the market for £1.5m after closing. Police believe that arsonists started the blaze which prompted the huge emergency services response and led to Brownshill Green Road being closed for hours.

As investigations are underway to find who was responsible, police have appealed for anyone with any information to come forward. "We are investigating a suspected arson attack in Coventry," a West Midlands Police spokesperson told CoventryLive. " Officers were called to Brownshill Green Road to assist West Midlands Fire Service, who were dealing with a fire at a disused former care home.

"We are now investigating and anyone who has any information can contact us via 101 or Live Chat quoting crime number 20/394056/24."

Details can also be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
