A Post Office service within a Keresley shop is set to close. There was a battle to stop the One Stop plans to close the branch within its store in Keresley.

Taiwo Owatemi, the area's voice in Parliament, had lobbied the firm to try and force a change of heart. But in the latest letter from One Stop, she said that it plans to forge ahead with the Post Office branch closure is continuing.

In its place will be a 'drop and collect' service but this, the MP says, 'ignores' what residents want. "I am disappointed that One Stop is continuing with the move to a Drop & Collect format at its store in Bennetts Road North," she said.

"Keresley residents have repeatedly told One Stop of their needs and yet they have been continuously ignored. This is a major blow to the local community."

The firm previously said that 'economic challenges' had led to the decision being made. A statement read: " "Our retail partner One Stop, who operates Keresley End Post Office branch on our behalf, has advised that due to the challenges of the current economic climate, they have made the difficult decision to resign.

"However, to help mitigate the loss of some vital Post Office services, One Stop has agreed to operate a Post Office Drop & Collect, which is a lighter branch format. Drop & Collect will offer services from a handheld device, allowing customers to maintain access to bill payments and prepaid parcel services from the current branch location."
