Parents have been left disgusted after 'metal cages' were installed at a Coventry school to 'prevent students from using the toilets.' Pupils can now only use the toilets while being supervised, it has been claimed - news that has sparked a national outcry.

Foxford Community School in Longford reportedly implemented the system earlier this month in a bid to keep kids in classes for the full hour. Many have likened the new installation to 'cages' and the story has been reported across the UK.

Grandparent Ian Ward, from Coventry, said his grandchildren had been left 'upset' over the change and described the move as 'totally wrong.' He claimed that the new rules had been enforced for every year group from Year 7 to Year 11.

Ian said he understands the school has been dealing with toilet issues but insisted the 'cages are going too far.' Parents have also echoed this with one saying it should be 'against the law.'

Candice England said: “Absolutely disgusting. My lad goes to this school and has witnessed children asking to go to the toilet and waiting hours for a teacher to collect a child to take them or they were ignored. It is not a bloody prison - no wonder kids do not want to be in school any more.”

Clare Senior commented: “It is disgusting - looks like a prison. If a child asks to go to the toilet they have to wait for a teacher to collect them and take them. Depending on how many other children are needing to go they could be waiting a while.”

Pam Russell said: “Well, let's hope they do not have a lot of accidents. That is a stupid childish thing to do and it should be against the law! What about people with medical conditions? Idiots.”

A spokesman for Foxford Community School said: “We have recently installed metal doors to two toilet areas. These are not cages and the doors are unlocked before and after school, as well as at break and lunchtimes.”
