Full details have finally emerged of why a police plane was seen circling over Coventry. Police have today, Tuesday, March 19, revealed why they took action - 48 hours after many city residents saw the plane overhead.

Now it has emerged that a number of arrests were made during a police crackdown against reckless riders in Coventry. The police plane was spotted circling the skies across parts of the city on Sunday afternoon (March 17).

A National Police Air Service (NPAS) spokesperson had only previously released a very small amount of information to say it was deployed to help police on the ground. Now West Midlands Police has finally revealed the results of the operation - which focused on grass land and canal towpaths in the Wood End, Henley, Foleshill and Coundon areas of the city.

It led to seven off-road bikes being seized, three arrests for theft of a motor vehicle and five riders being reported for various traffic offences. A stolen van was also recovered.

"We’re continuing to take action against the menace of off-road bikes with arrests and seizures across Coventry," a force spokesperson said. "Reckless riding is dangerous and hugely annoying to our communities which is why we're carrying out regular activity to tackle this nuisance.

"We know the importance of addressing all anti-social behaviour on our communities and this is one of our priorities." More of the operations, which included Coventry neighbourhood officers, traffic team and specialist bike officers, could be staged soon, police have warned.

"We'll be running regular activity against illegal off-road bikes through Operation Prosperity over the coming weeks and months," the spokesperson added.

I wonder just how much it cost us?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
