Violent gunmen who opened fire on two separate homes in Coventry have been jailed for more than 20 years. Cadel Cumberbatch and Rakesh Jassal were also behind a nasty carjacking that left a victim with numerous head injuries.

In the first incident, on November 13, 2021, Cumberbatch, now 23, and Jassal, now 24, were spotted in a car from which shots were fired at a house in Anglian Way, Stoke Aldermoor. They were in a pair of Vauxhall Astras that pulled up outside the house.

The car horns were sounded a number of times. When no one came out of the house, shots were fired, breaking a window.

A day later, the two arrived at a separate address in Station Street East, Foleshill, firing a shotgun at an outbuilding in which cannabis was being stored. As they fled, one of them was seen turning back toward the house to fire a third shot which broke a living room window.

Thankfully, no one was injured in either incident, despite both being family homes. Cumberbatch and Jassal also carjacked and assaulted a man they knew in Duke Barn Field, Upper Stoke.

Shortly afterwards they were identified and arrested by investigating officers who were able to build a case against them. Both denied two firearms charges and one of robbery, but were convicted by a jury.

They were sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on Monday, February 5. Cumberbatch was jailed for 13 years while Jassal was given nine years and eight months.
