Buses diverted for hours as West Midlands Police launches investigation



Two terrified bus passengers had a mystery substance hurled at them as they boarded a bus. Services were diverted for hours after the attack, which happened at the junction of Holbrook Lane and Beacon Road in Holbrooks, Coventry.

Officers rushed to the scene, near Shell petrol station at around 10.30am on Friday, January 26. They found an 'unknown liquid' had been hurled at two people as they boarded a National Express bus heading for Arena Shopping Park.

Firefighters from Coventry and Foleshill and an Air Ambulance critical care car were called to the scene in Holbrooks. Two people were assessed, with one said to have had 'watery eyes.'

Both of the victims were believed to have been uninjured. Buses were diverted throughout the day as the road remained closed until around 4pm.

National Express West Midlands said it would be providing CCTV from inside the vehicle to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident which happened at around 10.25am on Friday (January 26).

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called after an unknown substance was thrown near the junction of Holbrook Lane and Beacon Road, Coventry.

“Two people were left with liquid on them and were assessed at the scene. One had watery eyes but neither was injured, and the substance is not believed to be corrosive. Enquiries are ongoing.”
