A man and woman had to be rescued by firefighters after their car got stuck in flood water. Crews in Kenilworth were called into action in the early hours of this morning (January 2).

The pair were in a car that was left stuck as it tried to manoeuvre through gushing flood water at The Ford. Firefighters had to use an inflatable rescue sled to bring them to safety.

The incident, which took place at just after 5.30am, has been the first of several across the county today as Storm Henk lashes our region with high winds and heavy downpours.

There are ten flood warnings and alerts in place and it has led to Warwickshire Fire and Rescue to urge motorists to avoid flooded roads - especially those that have been closed. A spokesperson from Warwickshire County Council said: "WFRS crews were called to The Ford in Kenilworth this morning after a car had attempted to drive through the flood water.

"Due to the speed of the flowing water, crews used an inflatable rescue sled to bring the occupants of the car to safety. With heavy rain expected to continue for the next few days, please avoid this area and do not attempt to drive through flood water – it’s dangerous for you, your passengers and anyone else who comes to rescue you."
