Man dies and three hurt in M40 crash in Warwickshire

A man has died and three others have been taken to hospital after a three-car crash on the M40 in Warwickshire.



The collision, involving a Volskwagen, Peugeot and Jaguar, happened at about 0015 BST on the northbound carriageway between junctions 12 and 13.

Three men in the Peugeot had serious injuries and one has died. The driver of the VW had a suspected neck injury.

The southbound carriageway reopened at about 0600 BST and the northbound stretch was opened at about 0950 BST.

Thrown from car

Warwickshire Police said the Peugeot left the carriageway and went up the embankment before coming to rest in the nearside lane of the motorway.

Two men were thrown from the car in the crash and a third man got out to warn oncoming traffic of the obstacle in the carriageway.

Both the VW and the Jaguar collided with the stationary Peugeot, police said.

All three men from the Peugeot were taken to the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire with serious injuries and one of the men ejected from the car has since died.

The driver of the VW also suffered serious injuries and was taken to the same hospital. The driver of the Jaguar suffered minor injuries.
