Shoppers were told to avoid a popular city-based shopping centre following a collision. It happened at Cannon Park Shopping Centre in Coventry.

A car reportedly careered into part of the busy shopping complex which led to dozens of customers being evacuated. Nobody is believed to have been injured.

A 'significant' amount of damage was caused to the electricity supply which led to the temporary closure of several shops, including Costa Coffee, Iceland and Peacocks on Thursday (November 16). Centre Manager Tim Pople said a number of essential systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers and lighting, were 'not functioning'.

Engineers from National Grid were forced to cut off the power supply at Cannon Park. Repairs were carried out throughout the day on Friday (November 17).

Mr Pople said they took the decision to close temporarily 'in the interest of safety.' Bosses confirmed that all of the shops have since reopened at Cannon Park Shopping Centre.
