Brazen thieves filled a trolley full of goods in a supermarket before walking out and leaving in a black Jaguar car - before repeating the same trick the next week.

Csaba Nemeth, Krisztina Vajda and Dzsenifer Lakatos went to the supermarket on Chapel Street, Rugby, on October 28 and filled a trolley with items worth £525. When challenged by security staff as they walked out they claimed they were going to get a purse, but instead they loaded their black Jaguar car with the stolen items before dashing off. They never returned to pay.

A week later on November 7 around 4:30pm, the three individuals alongside Kriztian Tokoli and driver Lorenzo Oravec returned to the same supermarket. They loaded another trolley with £597.18 worth of items.

This time, the pair went to the self-scan area of the supermarket, scanned one of the items from the trolley and went to pay but the card declined. They tried to exit the shop but not realising they had been observed by staff members.

The Rugby First CCTV operator spotted their black Jaguar which had been previously flagged. They altered the supermarket security before their arrival and the duo were monitored while the Rugby Town Rangers convened nearby in case of any issues.

When they tried to leave the store, the Town Rangers and shop security were waiting for them. Tokoli ran over to the car to warn them, which then made off before Tokoli and Lakatos were detained by the Rangers and the security staff until police officers arrived to make an arrest.

A short time after, the car was stopped by other officers, with Nemeth, Oravec, and Vajda were also arrested. £1,021.81 worth of products were discovered in the boot, and in total £2,143.99 were stolen by all five.

On November 9 at Coventry Magistrates Court. 20-year-old Dzsenifer Lakatos, of Loughborough Road in Coalville, was ordered to pay £185 to the Crown Prosecution Service, and a victims' surcharge of £114 for two counts of theft from a shop. He was also given a community order with a 15 day rehabilitation activity requirement, along with a requirement to carry out unpaid worth for 100 hours within the next twelve months.

On November 16 at the same court, 50-year-old Csaba Nemeth, was given 12 weeks imprisonment to be suspended for 15 months for two counts of theft from a shop. He was also ordered to pay £46 to the CPS as well as a victims’ surcharge of £154.

23-year-old Lorenzo Oravec from Derby was given a four week prison sentence to be suspended for 12 months for aiding and abetting theft from a shop. He was also given six points on his license for driving without insurance. Oravec is also required to pay £46 to the CPS and a victims’ surcharge of £154.

18-year-old Krisztian Tokoli, also from Derby, was sentenced to eight weeks imprisonment for theft from a shop, along with a victims’ surcharge of £154. 45-year-old Krisztina Vajda was given a six-week prison sentence to be suspended for 12 months for two counts of theft from a shop. He is required to pay £154 to the CPS, and a victims’ surcharge of £46.
