A DPD driver has been attacked twice in less than a week in Bedworth by masked gang. The female driver was targeted on Henson Road on Monday (October 23).

This was the second time in less than a week as masked robbers also targeted her while she was out making deliveries in Melrose Avenue on October 17. During that incident she was pushed to the floor by two masked men, who then stole around 50 parcels, before making off.

In the most recent incident on Monday, the woman was making deliveries in the Henson Road area of town when the masked gang struck again. It happened at 12.45pm when two masked men approached the van , pushed the woman away and took parcels before making off in a car.

Detectives are now linking the two incidents and it has prompted a warning from police to all delivery drivers across the two towns to be on their guard. "Delivery drivers operating around Nuneaton and Bedworth are advised to take care when opening their van for deliveries," a Warwickshire Police spokesman said.

"There have been two recent instances of a delivery driver in Bedworth reportedly being targeted by masked males who have allegedly unloaded parcels from the delivery van into their own vehicle after pushing the driver out of the way. The same company was targeted in both incidents, and we are working closely with the company’s security advisors to find out more.

"We are also asking all members of the public to keep an eye out for their local delivery drivers, and if they see any suspicious behaviour around their vans to make a report to the police as soon as possible." Anyone who has any information is being urged to contact police either online here, or by calling 101.

Details can also be given to the independent charity CrimeStoppers, which is anonymous, on 0800 555 111. It has been stressed that anyone who sees a crime in progress, should call 999 straight away.
