Drivers have been warned of long delays after four-way traffic lights were installed on a busy road in Coventry. Roadworks are currently taking place on Aldermans Green Road.

National Grid is carrying out repair works, says Coventry City Council. Works are expected to take place over the next week with the completion date set for Friday (October 27).

Motorists have reported that the temporary traffic lights were 'stuck on red' this morning (Monday, October 23). It reportedly also led to several buses being delayed, including the 22 (Victoria Farm).

Drivers reported large queues earlier today with traffic said to be at a 'standstill' at around 9am. Google Maps currently shows high levels of congestion on Aldermans Green Road, Eburne Road and Jackers Road.

Works are also currently taking place on Foleshill Road and Longford Road. Drivers have been urged to avoid both city roads until 3.30pm on Thursday (October 26).

A spokesman for National Grid said: “Engineers from National Grid Electricity Distribution are currently working at Aldermans Green Road to repair a fault on the underground electricity network. Temporary traffic signals are in place while this work is taking place to ensure the safety of our staff and members of the public.

“Following a problem with the temporary lights, there are now manual controls in place from 7am to 7pm each day to help minimise the disruption for road users. We are working to complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible and expect to be able to remove the temporary lights by Thursday. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this essential work.”
