One National Express Coventry bus service is set to be axed and changes will be made to the timetable of other routes in the coming weeks. The bus firm has revealed that changes take effect on October 22 and also from November 5.

From 22nd October, the timetable for the X1 service between Coventry and Birmingham will change. Customers will also see fully electric zero-emission double decker buses launched on the route. Then, from November 5, there will be changes to services across the city, including the loss of some routes.

Ed Rickard, Network Director for National Express, explained that it has re-looked at its bus network across the city due to changes in travel patterns. This includes the loss of the Service 19 between Westwood Business Park, Tile Hill and Coventry city centre and the 54 service will no longer serve Coventry city centre and will instead start and finish at Spon End.

"We know that our bus services are vital lifelines for many customers and communities and we have been working closely with Transport for West Midlands to continue protecting as many services as possible across Coventry and the wider region," the Network director said. "In common with bus operators nationwide, we are seeing changes to travel patterns due to a number of lifestyle changes, including more people working from home and shopping online. This means we have to look at our network to ensure we can maintain the best bus coverage for the people of Coventry.

"While some routes may operate slightly differently to now, we’ve worked with Transport for West Midlands to ensure connections and alternatives remain in place, so we’d like to remind customers to please check our website http://www.nxbus.co.uk/coventry for the latest details.

“Our priority is to continue to build on the positive steps we are taking to improve the reliability of our services and to keep fares low, with nBus ticket and passes now providing customers with the flexibility to hop on any bus within the nBus zone for the same great price."

Following the half-term break, there will be timetable changes from November 5, which are:

  • The 2 and 2A timetable will change and buses will no longer serve Earlsdon. During peak daytime hours the route will extend from Tile Hill to Westwood Business Park and during off-peak daytime hours it will extend to Cannon Hill Shops. The 2B service will continue to serve Earlsdon.
  • The timetable for 7/7B service will be revised, along with the Sunday timetables for the 6/6A and the 15 service.
  • Service 19 between Westwood Business Park, Tile Hill and Coventry city centre will no longer operate. It will be partially replaced by service 2 between Cannon Park, Tile Hill and the city centre and Westwood Business Park will be served by service 2 and 18A at peak times. Other parts of the 19 route are served by the 11, 12X and the 18.
  • A new service 51 will begin operating on Sunday only between Coventry city centre, Earlsdon, Hearsall Common and Coundon.
  • The 54 service will no longer serve Coventry city centre and will instead start and finish at Spon End. Customers can use service 6 to travel between the city centre, Tile Hill and West Coventry Academy.
