The treatment of service widows by both the government and city councils has always been a disgrace. Our city council for example has the power to disregard payments made to widows for the purposes of assessing housing and poll tax benefit as some other councils do but deliberately chooses not to.
I've also heard of widows and children being evicted from their MoD homes just three weeks after a serviceman was killed in action.
