A former Coventry pub site could be turned into a place where people live and shop. Plans have been revealed for the land that plays home to the old Bear & Staff pub in Princethorpe Way, Binley

The pub closed in 2016 then a portion of the site played home to China Chef takeaway, which closed back in May of this year. Now it is being proposed that the pub is demolished and replaced by a new building which would boast a convenience store and residential apartments.

There would be seven, one-bedroom residential apartments at first floor level. Each property would have an open plan kitchen and living area, with separate bathroom and bedroom. Stairs and a disabled riser would provide access to the first floor.

To access the site, it is proposed that there is a modified vehicular access off Oxendon Way, shifted slightly eastwards to maximise the distance from the junction to Princethorpe Way. There would be a car park with 19 spaces, including one disabled space, for the convenience store.

There would also be seven car parking spaces for the residential apartments to the southeast corner of the site. The plans also propose cycle storage for shop users at the front of the convenience store as well as cycle storage for the apartments, located at the south west corner of the building within a covered shelter.

The proposal is being looked at by the planning team at Coventry City Council. As part of this, public consultation is being held.

These means that people can have their say on the plans. The consultation will run December, which is when a decision will be made on if the application is given the go-ahead.

The application, including all of the documents, can be viewed on the council's website. It is under the planning section - search for application number PL/2023/0002143/FUL
