A woman and two men have been taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries after a collision involving a car and a bus stop in Coventry. It happened on Holbrook Lane on Monday (September 25).

Firefighters from Foleshill and Coventry Fire Stations and a 4x4 Brigade Response Vehicle were called to the scene at around 8.45am. A road closure was put in place until 10am.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle but he was freed by firefighters using cutting equipment, while a woman passenger freed herself from the car, said West Midlands Fire Service. It is understood both casualties were taken to University Hospital Coventry.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a car that had crashed into a bus stop on Holbrook Lane at 8.43am. Three ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

“We discovered three patients, a man and woman from the car and a second man, who was the pedestrian. All three were treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.”

However, there is some uncertainty about the details, as fire officials say the pedestrian suffered only minor injuries, said West Midlands Fire Service. He was also taken to UHCW in Walsgrave.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: “Shortly after 8.45am on Monday (September 25), we responded to an incident on Holbrook Lane, near the junction with Sunningdale Avenue, Coventry. Two fire engines and a 4x4 Brigade Response Vehicle responded, with the first vehicle arriving within four minutes of being mobilised.

“One woman had freed herself from the car prior to our arrival, and the male driver was trapped in the vehicle but was freed by firefighters using cutting equipment. He was assessed at the scene by paramedics. Both casualties are believed to have been conveyed to University Hospital Coventry.

“One male pedestrian was assessed at the scene for minor injuries by paramedics and is believed to have been conveyed to University Hospital Coventry for precautionary checks. We left the scene at 9.59am.”
