Businesses say they have been suffering for months

Sewage water is 'cascading' around businesses on a main Nuneaton street, leaving owners, shoppers and residents horrified. They claim that they have been suffering as a result of the pipe on the car park, which sits in between Chadwicks Fine Foods and Nisa Local off Arbury Road, for months.

The situation is becoming unbearable for fed-up Keli Eales, who runs Chadwicks Fine Foods. She told CoventryLive that the Severn Trent's promises of fixing the problem have yet to materialise.

"They (Severn Trent) know it's blocked. They know that the pipe needs fixing.

"They have been out and fixed it three times but the water is absolutely cascading into the car park. It is raw sewage.

"There is toilet roll in the car park. It absolutely stinks and I have been onto them for the past three weeks. The Nisa has and people on the estate have too and still nothing has been done."

She said that the issue has been ongoing for months. "They (Severn Trent) have dug the car park up three times to change the pipe to try to fix it. They keep coming back with a camera to look at it and they know that it is blocked.

"They put it down for a priority to be done about eight or nine weeks ago and they came out again seven weeks ago but they still haven't fixed it. It (the sewage water) is coming through the car park.

"It is going all the way down the road, and the kids walking to school are walking through it. I have to clean my shop every time someone comes into the shop because they are walking through it and it is sewage."

She added: "We have all had enough."

CoventryLive contacted Severn Trent and the firm apologised. In a statement, Martin Young, Waste Team Manager at Severn Trent, said: "We’re really sorry for any inconvenience caused to the businesses on Arbury Road. The original issue was a collapsed sewer that engineers had previously been out to repair, but we have since been made aware of a secondary issue that also needs to be fixed that’s causing problems following heavy rain.

"Crews will be attending the site today and will make it a priority for repairs to be carried out. Until this can take place, our team will pay regular visits to ensure the flow of the pipe is maintained.

"Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank the business owners for their patience."
