Under the rules, those aged 16 can only be admitted with a responsible adult aged over 18
Concerns have been raised about 'gangs' of youths at Godiva Festival 2023 - throwing its under-16 policy under fire. According to festival rules, those aged 16 can only be admitted with a responsible adult aged over 18.
But CoventryLive has seen a number of reports of large groups of unaccompanied teenagers causing trouble. One suggested that a group were throwing things into the crowds, pushing and shoving others.
"This needs to be controlled, properly asking for ID," the post said. Another mentioned an alleged incident on Saturday (July 1), which read: "Gangs of u18s all over the venue, barging past young families (which involved a brawl after Ella Eyre). Plastic bottles and vapes been thrown, pushing in queues.
"Don’t get me wrong, was a great day as always. However this may spoil families from attending in the future."
A Coventry City Council spokesman said that they will look at the concerns as part of the post-event evaluation. “Our number one priority at Godiva Festival is always the safety of our attendees," the spokesman said.
"To help us achieve this, we have a number of rules in place which we ask people to follow. We worked with a number of partners including our security contractor and the police to enforce the rules so we could ensure that everyone could enjoy the event in a safe and secure way.
"We are aware of a small number of comments on social media about issues during the weekend. We will be reviewing them, alongside our partners, as part of our robust post-event evaluation."
