Her family were forced to put buckets out to catch the water - even on her bed as water poured through lights in the ceiling of the second floor flat

An elderly woman was left with water pouring out of her light fittings after torrential downpours yesterday. The family of Sheila Cryer, who lives in a second floor flat in Cleaver Gardens, says the flooding issue has been ongoing for 20 years.

Her daughters had to race to her home to help her as water poured from light fittings onto her bed and in the living room, as well as flooding the main entrance to the block of flats. They had to quickly grab containers to catch the water to prevent more of her furniture being ruined.

Shocking video footage shows how the brown coloured water was running out of the light fitting in her bedroom and into a clear container on her bed. "We had to go to my mum's flat to assist her as it flooded again.

"The water was literally running through her light fitting in her bedroom. Her bed, that we have replaced several times due to flooding, has been soaked through and ruined. The water was coming through her windows and her ceiling in both bedroom and living room

"This has been going on for 20 years on and off," her daughter explained.

"My mum is almost 74 and disabled and can hardly climb stairs, yet is stuck in this awful flat as there are no properties suitable for her to move to. The communal stairwell is really unsafe to walk up and down due to all four flights being flooded.

"The council has to do something about this."

The council has said that the issues yesterday were linked to problems with some of the guttering, which is being investigated. It has also said that it will work with the OAP to try and relocate her to another property.

A spokesman for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said: “Our teams are in the process of addressing the situation and we are working with residents due to the unprecedented amounts of rain we experienced."

"unprecedented"?!?

:tinfoilhat: Doncha know, Dutchman. :tinfoilhat: We've never seen rain like this before, it's so wet and so heavy, it must be down to climate change! :rolling:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
