Traffic light torn from ground in crash on Longford Road

A suspected drink-driver has been arrested following a collision in Coventry. Police were called to the scene in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, June 4).

Officers descended on Longford Road shortly before 2am. A traffic light was torn from the ground near Longford Convenience.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving, confirmed West Midlands Police. He was then taken to hospital, where he remains today.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to Longford Road shortly before 2am today (Sunday, June 4) after a car hit a lamppost. The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving and taken to hospital for assessment.”

At the best of times, that is a nasty few feet of road. The bus stop should never have been placed where it is forcing the road to narrow.

Drinking may well be a factor in this case, but I know plenty of sober drivers who have been caught out there.
