A man was stabbed in the back during a violent incident in an alleyway in Bedworth. Church Walk leading from the town centre to Park Road remained taped off this morning (May 17) following the violent incident last night.

Warwickshire Police have said that the victim, who has not been identified but is aged in his 40s, remains in hospital where he is receiving treatment for injuries to his back, which are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Armed police swooped after the incident in the alleyway off Park Road next to Appleyard Close. The man was reportedly approached by a number of men.

They attacked him with what police have described as a 'bladed article' before fleeing. Police swarmed to the area, sealing off the crime scene and launching an investigation to find the suspects.

This morning (May 17) a 15-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy and a 42-year-old man – all from Bedworth – were arrested on suspicion of assault – ABH. All three remain in police custody where they are being questioned.

Two police officers are currently stationed at the cordon, and there are two patrol cars parked up at Park Road car park. There will be a police presence in the area throughout the day confirmed Chief Inspector Steve Davies, the borough's police commander.

"I appreciate this incident is concerning, but I would like to reassure them a thorough investigation is being conducted by our CID team and we believe it to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public," he said.

"We responded quickly and three people were arrested in connection with the incident, however we will continue to carry out enquiries and will have officers from our Safer Neighbourhood Team across the town this morning engaging with members of the community and reviewing CCTV."

A witness appeal has been launched for anyone who saw what happened, or who was in the area of Park Road and Appleyard Close between 6.45pm and 7.15pm.

"We are keen to establish exactly what went on and would encourage anyone who was in the vicinity of Park Road, saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident, or has any mobile phone footage to come forward," CI Davies said.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help with our ongoing investigation.”

Anyone who can help should report it online or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 354 of 16 May.
