A closure order has been secured against two properties in Coventry. Officers say the properties were both showing early signs of cuckooing, in which criminals exploit vulnerable people and use their homes for illegal activity.

Officers secured the orders for the properties on Adelaide Street and Barras Green, which prevent anyone not named in them from entering the property. It ensures that the people living at each address are protected and allows for them to be appropriately safeguarded.

A warrant was carried out at the property on Adelaide Street earlier this month in which Class B drugs were recovered. Intelligence confirmed the property was being used as a base for drug dealing.

Officers discovered that the Barras Green property had been subject to a number of complaints from neighbours about loud noise and anti-social behaviour. When officers visited, they found evidence of drug taking.

Inspector Dave Langston, from the Coventry Gangs Team, said: “This was an extremely positive piece of proactive work to protect two vulnerable individuals from becoming victims of cuckooing. These orders make it an offence for anyone not named in the orders to enter the property and hopefully will be the first step in safeguarding these people.

“We would urge anyone who thinks cuckooing or similar crime is happening in their area to please get in touch with us and report it. If you have concerns about cuckooing, drug use and anti-social behaviour, visit our website: https://www.west-midlands.police.uk/you ... nd-dealing.”

Maybe close the council house, too?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
