A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man was fatally stabbed in Coventry city centre this morning (April 6). Officers were called to Upper Well Street just before 2.40am and found a man with serious injuries.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services nothing could be done to save the casualty, aged in his 20s. He was sadly confirmed dead shortly afterwards.

A second man was discovered with hand wounds and has been taken to hospital for treatment. A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and has been taken into custody for questioning.

A cordon and road diversions remain in place while police carry out their enquiries. Superintendent Ronan Tyrer said: "This is the tragic death of a young man and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this devastating time.

"We currently have a man in custody but we're still in the very early stages of our investigation to establish exactly what happened and why. We understand our enquiries will lead to disruption in the city centre and we're grateful for your support and understanding."

Anyone with information or who saw what happened is asked to contact the Live Chat on the force's website, quoting incident number 20/321996/23.

A man has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in Coventry. It happened on Upper Well Street in the early hours of Thursday, April 6.

Officers were called to the busy street shortly before 2.40am. A man was found seriously injured and was pronounced dead shortly after. Today, the victim has been named as 22-year-old Shou Zou.

A murder investigation was launched by West Midlands Police. Forensics were seen combing the crime scene for evidence on Thursday (April 6).

Penqui Sun, from Coventry, was today charged with the murder of Mr Zou. He will appear before Coventry Magistrates' Court on Saturday (April 8).

A man, aged 20, also suffered a shoulder and hand injury. He has been treated for his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. Sun, 23, has also been charged with attempted murder, confirmed West Midlands Police.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Sanders, from Coventry Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of Mr Zou who have now been informed about their loved ones death. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack but our investigations continue.

“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward and speak to us. If anyone has any footage, CCTV or dashcam footage then please call me or one of my team on 101 quoting log number 295 of 6 April.”

Young man murdered in Coventry city centre bus stop knife attack as party ends in tragedy

Image

A man was murdered in a knife attack at a bus stop after a party in Coventry ended in tragedy. Now what began as a get-together between friends will see a Coventry man sentenced after murdering one student and injuring another in the attack in the city centre in the early hours of April 6.

The evening began peacefully when Coventry University student Shuo Zou gathered with friends as he held a party for a mutual friend of his and defendant Pengqi Sun [pictured above]. Yet things turned nasty when a disagreement broke out between the two.

This escalated when Sun assaulted Shuo Zou. It was quickly stopped by friends - but that was not the end of the matter.

Sun returned home to arm himself with two blades of a broken pair of scissors along with a knife. The 23-year-old sought his adversaries at a bus stop and launched an attack.

He inflicted a fatal neck wound on Shuo Zou. A friend who came to his aid also suffered serious hand injuries.

Shuo Zou, 22, died at the scene. Pengqi Sun was pointed out to police by witnesses and swiftly arrested.

He claimed he had merely acted in self-defence. Yet a jury at Warwick Crown Court found him guilty of the murder of Shuo Zou and wounding with intent.

He was cleared of attempted murder. Detective Inspector Damian Forrest from the Homicide Unit said: “Shou Zou died from a stab wound miles from home and his family.

"This is a tragedy that escalated from a minor disagreement and our sympathies remain with Shou’s family and friends.” Pengqi Sun, from Hales Street in Coventry, will be sentenced on Monday, October 9.

Student jailed after brutal bus stop murder in Coventry

A student has been jailed after murdering a young man and injuring another in a knife attack in Coventry. Pengqui Sun will spend more than two decades behind bars after he fatally stabbed a man at a bus stop on Upper Well Street.

Victim Shuo Zou was with friends holding a party for a friend of both him and defendant Pengqi Sun. At some point, a disagreement broke out between Zou and Sun.

Things then escalated when Sun assaulted Shuo Zou. But this was quickly stopped by friends, said West Midlands Police.

Detectives say 23-year-old Sun then returned home to arm himself with a knife and two blades of a broken pair of scissors. He sought them out at a bus stop and launched an attack, inflicting a fatal neck wound on Shuo Zou.

The friend who came to help him also suffered serious hand injuries. Sadly, 22-year-old Shuo Zou died at the scene on Upper Well Street.

Today, Sun was jailed for a minimum of 24 years for the murder of Zou. He was also given an eight-year sentence for wounding with intent, as well as two one-year sentences for possession of a bladed article, West Midlands Police.
