Coventry City Council has been forced to change its bin collection schedule due to the snow
Bin collections have been disrupted in Coventry due to the snow. There will be no bin collections today and crews will be back out on Tuesday, officials say.
In addition, there will be no garden waste collections next week. Coventry City Council says this is needed so the authority can divert crews to catch up on missed household and recycling collections.
Collections on main roads yesterday were completed as normal, the council said this morning after a temporary halt caused by the snow on Thursday affected the work of crews. However, side roads that the council could not safely access on Thursday will not have been collected.
Therefore, the council says collections in the following areas may have been affected. For domestic waste, Cheylesmore, Styvechal, Willenhall. For recycling, Longford, Foleshill, Aldermans Green, Bell Green.
The authority says suspending services today will affect the following areas. For domestic waste – Binley, Upper / Lower Stoke and Walsgrave will be affected.
For recycling, Holbrooks, Allesley, Keresley and Radford will be hit.
A council spokesperson said: "The plan for next week will be to suspend garden waste collections so that our resources can be utilised to return to the affected areas and ensure recycling and domestic waste is picked up."
Earlier this morning, Coventry City Council had tweeted: ''Bins update - due to the weather conditions there may be a delay to some collections. Please leave your bins out and we will get to you as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience."
The news did not go down well with everyone. Some residents raised concerns on Twitter in response.
One person said: ''I remember as a young kid and young adult you needed a blizzard to close schools or stop buses and bin collections. Now a little snow and everything just seems to stop.''
Another said: ''Very poor service. You emptied half the road then went home. Still the same snow on both sides."
